Plastic Bumper Repair
Most body shops don’t like to “repair” plastic bumpers they rather replace them. Body shops, often do not have the expertise, the time, or the desire to repair plastic bumpers. Their expertise lies in estimating, frame straightening, panel beating, welding, paint mixing, and painting.
If you look at it from their viewpoint, they don’t have to take the time to repair the plastic, all they have to do is purchase a new bumper skin, paint the entire bumper and then put it back on your car. That may sound easy but there is more to consider.
- Your old bumper will end up in a landfill somewhere, this continues to be a growing problem.
- Since the entire bumper is bare, the entire bumper needs to be sealed, primed, painted, and clear coated. That means that the amount of VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) that end up in the atmosphere is much greater than when a spot repair is preformed.
- The method of replacing a bumper costs you more than just repairing the bumper.
As you can see, there is more to consider when choosing how to fix your bumper. This is not to say that there is not a time to replace a bumper, but when it is just a small scrape, dent, or chip, bumper repair is a very good alternative to the traditional methods.
If you have ever leased a car before, you know that at the time you return the car, that is the last time the leasing company can stick it to you. There have been times that leasing companies will charge the customer (you) the bodyshop price and then have a mobile bumper repair technician like us fix the bumper at a fraction of the cost they charged the customer.
Please give us a couple of days before your car is ready to be returned and we will help you save from getting gouged one last time by your leasing company.
